Reviews & Scores
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe Aux Moines has turned out very nicely in bottle, unwinding in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries and blackberries mingled with vine smoke and undergrowth. Medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with powdery tannins and a layered, lively profile, it's not dominated by the extremes of the vintage. - WA

A distinctly earthy nose reflects smoke and game nuances on the poached plum and wild berry scents. There is excellent size, weight and mid-palate density to the larger-scaled flavors that also display focused power on the mineral-driven and wonderfully persistent finish. This equally promising effort is a bit less youthfully austere finale. Good stuff provided you can cellar it appropriately. - BH

A rich even purple colour. The bouquet is very classy, in a restrained but refined manner suggesting more opulence to come. Just a touch of pepper. Dark raspberry, complex, juicy, structured, it is all there with a persistence that outstrips the other Gevrey 1ers crus tasted to date. - JM

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Combe Aux Moines 1er Cru showed a very small reduction on the nose. Slightly tertiary in style, black plum intermingling with boysenberry fruit, touches of graphite coming through with time. The palate is very concentrated on the entry: a fine bead of acidity, beautifully structured with a fresh, vibrant finish and a minerally aftertaste. The component parts have to meld together here, so afford this 5-6 years in bottle. - VM
